The Creation of Aitana Lopez: The AI Influencer Documentary

When we think of AI influencers, we immediately link them to technology. But the reality is far more creative—and human. Behind every successful AI personality is a whole team of people shaping the character’s identity, narrative, and appearance.
Case in point: Aitana Lopez. Her pink hair has become instantly recognizable, and she’s earning her creators as much as $11,000 per month.
Fanvue’s new documentary takes viewers behind the scenes of Aitana’s creation, showing why creativity is the real force behind her influence.
Crafting Aitana: Identity by Design
Most conversations on AI influencers revolve around the sophistication of technology. The assumption is that the more impressive the output, the more powerful the system that built it must be.
But Aitana’s creation shows how simplified—and far from reality—this thinking is.
It misses what you actually need to build a believable digital persona from scratch: a relatable backstory, a voice and look that stay consistent, and a world as real as any person’s is.
And these are all rooted in human creativity. Aitana is the product of an entire team of creative directors, art directors, video editors, writers, and strategists at The Clueless, a Spanish AI modelling agency.

Less algorithm, more traditional brand building
Before Aitana, The Clueless specialized in brand building. That’s how they approached her creation too: as a brand. So before her launch came an elaborate audience analysis—understanding which audiences would actually connect to her.
Of course, it’s technology that makes such a project possible, says Rubén Cruz, Co-founder and CEO of The Clueless. But how far the character goes rests on the creativity of their creators.
Getting the appearance right—every time
Aitana was born as a picture. “A JPEG with dreams,” the AI model quips. It was only when the team got the lip sync working that Aitana herself started believing she exists.
And since then, she’s been growing. First, the video team made her move—stiffly at first, but soon, as naturally as a human.7
As the team worked on her, they made sure she looked and sounded consistent.
It was a challenge to achieve this with her face. So they invested in understanding how AI worked, “so that Aitana would always come out looking the same,” says Rubén.

The story behind her world
Visuals were only the first part. The team needed to anchor her to her own world—built on the smallest details.
Aitana, for example, has her own natal chart, which the team uses to make decisions about her personality, preferences, and behavior. “Exactly like a human,” says Andrea Garcia, Creative Director at The Clueless.
Aitana’s world wasn’t designed in 10 minutes. Brand identity, moodboards, persona development, storytelling—the team did everything they’d been doing for brands for years to bring it to life.
And this meant intentional, deliberate decisions over time. “This thoughtfulness ends up reflecting things with which people connect,” says Will Monange, CEO, Fanvue.
This is just the beginning of Aitana’s story. She will keep evolving “depending on how the technology evolves,” says Rubén.
But creativity is what will define how her story unfolds.
Why Audiences Are Tuning In
The thoughtful, creative approach to Aitana’s creation—and to the creation of many other AI influencers The Clueless has built, like Alessio, Laila, and Rai—is what draws audiences into their worlds.
To many followers, AI influencers can feel just as real as their human counterparts. They have unique personalities that make it easy for fans to imagine them as a close friend who’s part of their daily life.
And the opportunities AI influencers present are infinite—and diverse.
One criticism Aitana has faced is that “perfect” AI models like her set unrealistic standards. But The Clueless has shown it doesn’t have to be the case.
Alessio is 80. Laila is plus size. Rai has albinism. Diverse, just like real people are. And thousands follow them every day.
It’s this diversity that creates an opportunity for everyone to feel represented—bringing in audiences from around the world.

The Next Phase of the Creator Economy
There’s a striking scene in Fanvue’s new documentary where Aitana herself appears on screen and speaks to viewers—like her creators do before she appears.
This powerful moment shows just how the lines between digital identity and creator presence are blurring.
Diana Núñez, Co-founder and CEO of The Clueless, believes we’re in a new era that’s set to be remembered as a historic moment, as transformative as the Industrial Revolution, or the internet’s arrival.
And she addresses concerns about AI taking over jobs head-on. “When photography first emerged, many artists felt threatened… Many jobs disappeared, but many more new ones were created.”
Fanvue COO Harry Fitzgerald agrees: “There will be creative industries that boom off the back of it. There would be people who’d be able to express themselves with AI the way they’ve never been able to previously.”
And we see that trend unfolding at Fanvue. Creators are using AI tools to deepen fan relationships—while remaining personal and intimate at scale.

How AI influencers are expanding creator potential
A main reason AI influencers are attracting serious attention is because they’re opening up new creative formats and pushing the boundaries of creativity.
Not only are you not bound to traditional talking head videos, but you’re also not constrained by time and space. And as your AI influencer can speak multiple languages and live in places you can build from scratch, it gives you more creative freedom.
In fact, AI influencers can even place you on the global stage. Take OpenArt and Fanvue’s AI Personality of the Year Awards—another way AI avatars can help create meaningful conversation around your influence.
And this opens up the possibility of a new kind of brand partnership. Through AI personalities, you can deliver consistent, on-brand content at scale and run global campaigns 24x7—without the unpredictability that comes with traditional influencer collaborations.
Other AI tools are helping creators scale engagement without burning out
Digital influencers like Aitana are just one example of a broader shift. Creators are using AI across their business—from producing content to scaling interactions.
AI voice calls are enabling creators to talk to fans in their own voice—even without being physically present.
AI message responders are helping them respond to fans on time, in their own communication style, consistently—letting them stay authentically themselves while connecting to thousands of followers.
Creators are actually using AI as a personal assistant to handle multiple tasks: ideating and creating new content, repurposing old content, scheduling time, and more. And the best AI assistants go much beyond what familiar tools like ChatGPT and Gemini can do.

Building Worlds, Building Audiences: AI Brings More Possibilities
The agency that made Aitana believes that in five years, she may just be working with them—“as a hologram, or as a robot,” says Rubén.
Or she can have another path: “We see her as the next Alexa, or we see her performing in movies,” he continues.
But the documentary makes it clear that Aitana—or AI influencers in general—won’t replace their creators.
“I liken it most to music,” says Will. “So you’d have someone that plays a violin, and the introduction of someone that’s able to be a DJ doesn’t take away from the fact that someone can still play the violin that has a fundamental role in the creation of music.”
Instead, they’ll work alongside people, opening up new frontiers for creators.
