TikTok 101: How to build a TikTok profile to promote your Fanvue

It’s very rare to across someone who hasn’t heard of TikTok. The video-sharing app, which launched in 2016, exploded during the Covid-19 pandemic as more and more people turned to easily accessible, short-form entertainment to pass the time whilst stuck at home. Since then, it has become a key platform for content creators to build up a fanbase - and it’s definitely something you should be taking advantage of.
If you’re looking to increase your following and draw people into your Fanvue community, TikTok is a great place to do exactly that. But on a platform saturated with over 1 billion users, how do you make sure that YOU stand out?
Create Killer Content
As TikTok is an app for instant entertainment, your video needs to capture attention in the first three seconds or people will scroll right past it without thinking twice. The key is to create a strong hook at the very beginning that stops users in their tracks.
But don’t give everything away just yet - you need to make sure that viewers stick around until the end, too!
Let’s say you create a video telling the story of a terrible date you’ve been on. To reel people in, you could start off the video by stating “This is by far the worst dating experience I’ve ever had!” before telling the story, saving the juiciest details until the end.
Keep your videos interesting all the way through by changing up locations, camera angles and even outfits, and make sure your lighting is top-notch to keep the video quality high.
A creator who has nailed her video creation is @annaxsitar, who has over 11 million users on the app. In her guide to feeling better after a breakup she begins the video with a bold title to capture her audience, tells her story with a voiceover and films from multiple locations in her house to keep the video captivating all the way through.
Finally, try adding captions to your videos, as this can help to target any users who are watching with the volume down.
Post on TikTok often
Unlike apps such as Instagram, where timeliness is key, TikTok pushes your content out to a range of timezones, so posting at a particular time is much less important. There’s also no limit to how many times a day you can post, and when first joining the app you should aim to be posting every day (or even more!) to help build up an initial audience.
The more videos you post, the wider your exposure - but don’t let your video quality suffer. One or two high-quality posts a day is a better strategy than ten average videos with no real purpose.
Research the current TikTok trends
Using trending songs and sounds is a great way to boost your views as the TikTok algorithm tends to favour videos using sounds that are already popular. You can add a current song as background music to a story you are telling, or use it as a soundtrack to a behind-the-scenes video.
As well as trending sounds, you will often see trending hashtags on your discover page. Try creating videos related to these hashtags to keep up with what’s currently popular.
Hopping on a trend, such as a dance to a current song or an entertaining skit, is of course a great way to get views, but being original and unique is important too, as you want to stand out from other creators and give people a reason to hit that follow button. So try putting your own spin on current trends to create an element of surprise and make sure people remember you.
